Alexa Turnbull

Mum of three with a background in humanitarian law and a lifelong interest in people, community and the things that make a place feel like home.

She grew up on a farm before heading off to boarding school, and later studied at UWA, completing a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws. She has also studied public relations, marketing and business, and has always had a creative side, with a particular love of graphic design and making things.

Her work has included supporting refugees through community legal organisations and working in migration law. Those experiences shaped her strong belief in kindness, fairness and making sure people feel supported and included. These days, much of her time is spent volunteering and getting involved in local community projects, including running a community playgroup and supporting schools, families and a range of local organisations.

Outside of community work, she is happiest near the ocean, surrounded by too many indoor plants, or with a cat nearby. She has a slightly obsessive love of fashion and design - particularly the whimsical, romantic work of Simone Rocha - and enjoys anything creative, beautiful or a little bit unusual.

She is happiest when she is bringing people together, making something happen or finding a small way to make someone’s day a little better.
