Sunset at Somerly - Our first Welcome Sundowner
What a wonderful welcome to 2026 at our first-ever Somerly Sundowner!
On Friday evening the Somerly P&C hosted our very first ‘Somerly Sundowner’, and it was a truly special night for our school community.
After a hot day, the weather cooled into the perfect warm evening with a gentle breeze. From 5:00pm to 7:30pm the grass was covered with picnic rugs and blankets as families relaxed together while the kids played and explored.

This was a completely free event for the Somerly community and it was wonderful to see so many families come along. We shared free pizza, icy poles and juice boxes, and every child had the chance to spin the mystery prize wheel - which was a huge hit.
A highlight of the evening was a surprise visit from Wanda the blue-tongue skink from Paint Wanneroo REaD, a local program that promotes early literacy. Wanda loved sharing her love of reading, and free books from the program were available for the children. The kids were all so excited to meet her, with cuddles, high-fives, and big smiles all around.

As this was the first time the P&C has hosted an event like this, it was heartwarming to see families chatting, children laughing, and everyone simply enjoying being together at school. The aim of the event was exactly this - to build connection and strengthen our community while helping families feel welcome at our school.

Tricycle fun!
Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the evening such a lovely one. A big thank you also to our small group of P&C volunteers who helped bring the night together, and to Dominos Mindarie for the great deal on the delicious pizzas.

If you’d like to help with events like this in the future - or share your ideas for ways we can continue building a strong and welcoming school community - we are always looking for more P&C members and volunteers to get involved.
