WACSSO Conference 2025

A weekend of networking and professional development at the annual WACSSO Conference

We recently attended the 2025 WACSSO Conference, a statewide event that brings together P&Cs from across Western Australia to share ideas, strengthen networks, and learn from education leaders.

Across the weekend, we connected with neighbouring P&Cs in the Joondalup East and West electorates, including Kinross Primary, Kinross College and Currambine Primary. These connections have already led to ongoing collaboration through a shared communication group, allowing us to exchange ideas, resources and practical solutions that can benefit our school community.

Day 1: Viewing the wonderful Student Art Exhibition

We heard from several keynote speakers, including the Minister for Education, Hon. Sabine Winton MLA, the eSafety Commissioner, Director General of Education Jay Peckitt, and Professor Andrew Whitehouse. Each speaker offered valuable insights into student wellbeing, education priorities and the role of families in supporting learning.

Schools are the true Community Hubs

We also attended practical workshops focused on strengthening school communities, including sessions on running healthy and sustainable school canteens, managing HR responsibilities within P&Cs, and community-building strategies through the Town Team Movement. These sessions provided practical ideas that we can apply at Somerly.

This year’s conference was “Connected Families, Strong Communities.”

This message came through in every session, highlighting the importance of schools as true community hubs where parents, students, families, and the wider community come together. Speakers and workshops reinforced that P&Cs play a key role in supporting this, fostering spirit, encouraging parent involvement, and building strong connections between families and the school community.

Overall, the conference provided new knowledge, networks and ideas that we look forward to using to continue strengthening Somerly as a vibrant and supportive community.

We cannot wait to attend again in 2026!
