Reconciliation Week 2026: “All In”
This National Reconciliation Week, Somerly Primary School P&C is reflecting on the theme “All In” and continuing our journey of listening, learning and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation.
This National Reconciliation Week, our P&C joins communities across Australia in reflecting on the 2026 Reconciliation Australia theme, “All In” - and what it means to live reconciliation through everyday actions, relationships and learning.
Reconciliation is ongoing work that requires listening, learning, relationship-building and sustained action over time. As a P&C, we recognise we are still on this journey and have more to learn.
This year, we established the Cultural Responsiveness Sub-committee to guide the P&C towards more informed, respectful and inclusive approaches in our activities and communications. The sub-committee is convened by an Indigenous community member of our P&C, whose lived experience and guidance are highly valued. The group focuses on strengthening respectful practices and supporting meaningful cultural inclusion across P&C initiatives. It also helps encourage greater student and wider community involvement in, and acknowledgment of, Indigenous culture and perspectives.
This week, students have taken part in a number of reconciliation activities, including wearing yellow for the “Wear It Yellow” initiative to support Children’s Ground, creating purple hibiscus-inspired handprint artworks, and beading activities using Indigenous colour themes.
Through our Cultural Responsiveness Sub-committee, we hope to support small recognitions and activities for important cultural dates throughout the year. Our website also includes an Acknowledgement of Country on every page, and we begin each P&C meeting with one.
As a P&C, we are committed to deepening our efforts and hope to play a greater role in engaging the whole school community in meaningful reconciliation initiatives. We acknowledge there is more work to do, and we remain dedicated to listening, learning, and working collaboratively to contribute thoughtfully and respectfully - and to being truly “All In” for reconciliation.
