The Fathering Subcommittee supports and enhances the Fathering Project at Somerly Primary School by coordinating activities that strengthen the bond between fathers and their children.

Working alongside the school’s Fathering Project Coordinator, the subcommittee helps deliver meaningful events and initiatives that encourage fathers and father figures to actively engage in school life and their children’s educational journey.

The program recognises the positive impact that involved fathers have on student wellbeing, confidence, and learning outcomes, and seeks to create inclusive opportunities for connection within the school community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the planning and delivery of father-focused events and activities
  • Collaborating with the Fathering Project Coordinator to develop an annual events calendar
  • Assisting with logistics, venues, and activity planning
  • Recruiting and coordinating volunteers to support events
  • Building partnerships with local businesses and community organisations
  • Promoting events through school and P&C communication channels
  • Seeking funding support from the P&C for program initiatives
  • Collecting feedback and evaluating program impact
  • Reporting outcomes and participation to the P&C Association

Through its work, the Fathering Subcommittee helps foster stronger family connections, supports student wellbeing, and builds a welcoming network for fathers and father figures within the school community.
